Who (or what) is God?
THE ETERNAL ONE
He is "without beginning and without end". This makes Him incomprehensible to the human mind. This places Him far beyond any created being, infinitely superior to man. This makes Him worthy of worship.
THE CREATOR OF ALL
All of the beauty and wonder of the earth and the entire universe was created by Him. The scope and complexity of it all leaves me in awe of such a being. He is my creator. Shall I not submit to his will in every way?
THE COMMUNING FRIEND
In the garden of Eden, God is seen in communion with Adam and Eve, as a friend walking and talking in the peace and beauty of His creation. When Adam and Eve disobeyed Him resulting in expulsion from the garden and the end of an intimate friendship, He became...
THE SEEKING SAVIOUR
The entire Scripture is the account of Him seeking lost humanity, that He might save them from the penalty of their sin and restore them to the wonderful communion of friends together. Jesus, in His relationship with the disciples, exemplifies the friendship He desires with all of mankind. From Genesis to Revelation, we can discover His heart's desire for reconciliation with man. It is clearly described in the story of the prodigal son where He is revealed as the...
THE LOVING FATHER
Jesus, as the beloved Son, began to reveal God as Father...a Father who desires a family. The church in it's beginning became the family of God...a family of children who loved and cared for one another. The new testament writers encourage God's people to live as loving brothers and sisters and caring especially for the weaker members of the family, such as widows and orphans.
THE KING OF KINGS THAT REIGNS FOREVER
The "Grand Finale" of God's purpose is revealed in John's "Revelation" where all evil and opposition to God is removed and He, not only reigns as supreme over all, but actually lives among His people as the "resident King".
