In reading the O. T. prophet, Daniel, it is apparent the God is in charge of the affairs of men...always has been...always will be. To ignore His word and His ways would be very foolish. Daniel's interpretation of the king's dream, recorded in Daniel 2:44 is a prophetic certainty on which one can build a life.
Daniel 2:44Amplified Bible (AMP)
44 And in the days of these [final ten] kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed, nor shall its sovereignty be left to another people; but it shall break and crush and consume all these kingdoms and it shall stand forever.
When you live by the truth of God's word, you can watch all the affairs of men in their futile attempts to control and dominate others and still have the peace of knowing that God has the final word. Only His kingdom will ultimately triumph and stand forever. Knowing this allows me to stay free of all the conflicts and struggles that continually concern men.
THREE SOURCES OF TRUTH THAT I LIVE BY...
History:
As I read the history of man, from creation to the present, I see God always aware and in control of the affairs of men. I see controversy, conflicts and wars over what is right and wrong and men's attempts to impose their beliefs on others. I see kingdoms rise and fall and yet none that endure beyond a few hundred years. God always intervenes and brings down the proud and haughty.
My own experience:
God has been faithful to me through a life of alternating difficulty and ease. His blessing is consistent and "His mercies are new every morning...". He has often responded to my cry and my need in specific ways that remove all doubt about His love and concern for me. Even in the most difficult of times, He is there to lead, to strengthen and to comfort.
His promises for the future:
There is real joy in reading God's word containing His promises for the future. In the verse quoted above, there is the assurance that to be a citizen of God's kingdom is to be part of an eternal kingdom. In Hebrews, I read of a people who are pilgrims and strangers on this earth as they search for a city "which hath foundation whose builder and maker is God". And the promise: "He hath prepared for them a city"! I am happy to consider myself one with those people.
